Some Dark Hair

Anonymous

One girl,

One girl with long hair.

Dark like a cave that has no end.

A cave that seems to devour all the light you feed it,

A cave that has no entrance,

And no end.

Dark like the bottom of a drain.

A drain that swallows life and death,

A drain that will never give back.

The girl’s hair was long.

It was so long that it caught on every tree and bush she ever walked past.

It was so long that by the time she left the mountain...her hair had not.

The girl’s hair never left.

Her hair grew and grew.

It grew onto neighboring trees

It grew onto neighboring mountains.

And while the girl’s hair flourished,

Everything stopped.

The girl’s long hair choked everyone to death,

Her hair devoured everything that stood in the way.

Her hair swallowed life,

And gave us death.

And now,

While we can’t see the girl,

We can see her hair.

Her hair that stretched across land and sea,

The hair that grew and grew.
