A Love for Something Greater Than Me

By Ella Bilu

Watery eyes, scraped knees, and a pounding heart

Love for the moment, hate for the practice

The rush to the head makes it all worth it

Because in the end, it is just plain old fun

Let’s go and give it another run.

Something worth living for

Winning that final score

Glory, greatness, and gold

Are they the main motivator?

Too much focus on the gain

And not enough on the game

What’s the purpose?

If not for fun…

Let’s go and give it another run.

Grass, water, clay.

The horn blasts

Screams come from a distance

My heart shifts to a slow beat
