The Pink Tree Smiling Back at Me

By Ella Bilu

As I walk onto campus feeling anything but free

I look up at the pink tree as she smiles back at me

She is there in the Spring but gone in the Summer

I can live without her but it sure is a bummer.

If she can make it, so can I

Through wind, sun, and rain

She does not succumb

Like she has something still to overcome.

Pink petals pile the floor

Reminding us that we don’t need more

Sure, we could push harder

But we might end up without any ardor.

She was there before us

And will be there after us

To her, we are just people passing by

But to me, she is my hope in the sky.
